My Halloween fright came early

Cat-o-lantern carved by hubby

Don't freak out, my editor said on the phone this afternoon. But we're getting some resistance to the cover, so we want to make some changes.

The good news is I've never been crazy about the book cover. I grew used to it (and I did print 1,000 business cards with that cover), but never fell in love. And I love what we believe to be the cover now, so I'm actually very excited. I'll post it soon. Right now, you may understand, I feel a little skittish.

Four months to pub date and we're changing the cover. The new cover isn't in the ARC or the catalogue. Why should I freak out?

In addition to this non-freaking-out news, I've received some REALLY good news about Orange Mint and Honey that I can't share just yet. Soon as I can, I will post it (and the lovely new cover, please God).

I did like your previous cover. But if your new one is better, that's great.

This is definitely a "let go and let God" moment because who knows whether this cover will be "better" than the former cover? It's all so subjective. I'll just ride it out and see what happens.

Thanks for your encouragement!

Carleen, the suspense is KILLING me!! Not just the cover, but your new news. Don't sit near me if you're at the LLL lunch on Thursday; I'll probably drive you crazy, lol! K.

Hmm -- I was going to wait until I caught up on emails before commenting on blogs, but now you have me as curious as the cat who is now upside down on my desk and looking a little scary herself. My fingers are crossed for you on -- whatever is about to happen :)

Hey Carleen, they changed my cover 8 weeks before publication . . . and it was the best thing that could have happened. The new cover was leaps and bounds above the first one. I'm sure it'll be great!

Gorgeous cat-o-lantern btw!!

As for the cover Carleen...if you were never "in love" with the original and there is a change being made that you do like then I say hold on to that because it will be the cover that rocks the book and knocks it off the shelves.

Can't wait to hear the big news...and see this new cover!!

carleen,

i think you're handling this just beautifully with the 'wait and see,' 'let go and let God' attitude. all will be well.

SS, I will be at the LLL and I'll be able to tell all...I just can't post all.

Lisa, How was Mexico? Welcome back!

Judy, you just made my day! I think this cover is leaps and bounds above the other too, so here's hoping!

Sherry and I&E, thank you so much for your kind words! Really, really helps!

You women are the best!!!!!

As to the cover; it's meant to be.

I feel very strongly that authors should be in love with the covers of their babies. After all, much of the responsibility to to sell the darn thing is placed on the shoulders of the authors now. They should, at the very least, like the packaging.
