Like Obama's mama, my mother's family is from Kansas. They were "colored farmers." Neva is my maternal great-grandmother's sister. Here she is being interviewed in the Topeka Capital-Journal about voting for Obama.
this is great! My grandmother died 10 years ago when she was 101. She came to this country from the Ukraine when she was 14, and supported her family as a seamstress. Education was out of the question for her--it was saved for the boys. She never became a citizen---she was too embarrassed about not knowing how to read fluently. She experienced a lot in her 101 years--from horses and buggies to men on the moon. I think she would have been proud of Obama. Who compassionately stand up for what he believes.

I read this article previously. I am so glad she lived to see this day. Her and many of our other ancestors went through so much.
