I came home and found a lovely UPS package from Random House on my doorstep. My ARCs. Very cool. It's really a book now! Though, as you may know, this is not what the cover will look like. The advance reader's copy is for promotional purposes. The tentative marketing plan:
National review and feature attention
National and local radio interviews
Author tour
Author available for phone chats with book clubs
Advertising in African American Connection
Online promotions
Reader's Circle marketing
Feature in the One World Spring 2008 sampler sent to bookstores and beauty salons across the country
Whaddya think? Time to get with a publicist and get to work!

So very cool! Awesome! You must be so excited! Congratulations!
Thanks! I am very excited!
OH MY GOSH!!! I am thrilled for you! I can't imagine how exciting this must be. I volunteer to pretend to be your publicist (or security, or limo driver -- whatever) while you figure out the game plan pre-release. Wow, you have a bunch of stuff you have to start doing now if you've got your ARCs. Seriously -- if there is anything at all I can help with -- at all -- let me know and I would love to help.
congratulations carleen! i'm looking forward to how your promotion schedule unfolds--so exciting! enjoy each moment.
Carleen, hey, I can finally stay connected to your blog! I'm almost as thrilled about that as I am about your AREs (I know, I prefer to call the ARCs myself but apparently RH uses the former, so when in Rome...)
Anyway, congratulations on this milestone! Isn't seeing your story printed and bound an incredibly satisfying experience? I'm so pleased for you.
Whoo-Hoo! Getting those copies really starts to make it seem real, doesn't it? Congrats and enjoy. It's bound to be quite a ride!
Wow, you guys! Thanks so much for your enthusiasm! It's nice to have someone to share the experience with who understands.
Lisa, How very sweet! Thanks!

Carleen I had to laugh when you said you stayed up and read your book "as a book." I remember doing that too. ENJOY!!
