Thanksgiving traditions

Every year I cook for Thanksgiving. It's one of a handful of times I cook. I know, lucky, huh? We do the traditional meal: turkey, stuffing, cranberries (from scratch and none of this orange, ginger relish nonsense), etc. Hubby and I are in sync this way. Thanksgiving is for keeping things exactly the same.

Christmas dinner is when we get a little crazy. The last few years, we've had green chili, chicken and waffles, appetizers. Any suggestions for something out of the box for this year? Though, it has to be something that we'll both eat. For example, hubby would like bouillabaisse. But fish stew ain't happening for me. I could do a soup with red beans and zucchini (red & green, get it?), but he hates them both. I'd love some ideas!

Grilled Elk Tenderloin. There are a few places on the net that sell it elk meat and let me tell you cooked right it will melt in your mouth.

You could leave the work behind and do what we sometimes do: Go to a fancy hotel for the holiday brunch. You get to eat all your favorite goodies and hubby gets to eat his. No negotiating about what to fix, and you can dress up fancy.

We're starting a new Thanksgiving tradition this year. My brother just got a laptop with a camera, so through the miracle of Skype, my husband and I will get to see and talk to all my relatives.

We had roll-your-own-sushi for Xmas last year and it was fabulous.

Well, this might seem obvious, but what about an "all of our favorite foods" theme? This might include gummy bears and steamed broccoli, so it would fit right in with the crazy tradition you've got going.

One year we decided we were going to have our Christmas dinner late because my husband was on an assignment until December 28th, so the kids and I had baked beans, beef hotdogs and homemade apple strudel for dessert...I made them each eat two stalks of broccoli, as I think about it that is red and green...hmmm, after they were sleep I had two glasses of really good red wine...makes me want to do that again...

Blessings!

Travis, Is it gamey? Cause I don't like gamey.

Shauna, That sounds like heaven!

Erin, That's a great idea! Each of our favorites!

Gina, I don't do sushi, but roll your own sounds like a great idea. :)

Angelia, How fun. Sometimes it is the simplier fare that's the best. And you can't go wrong with good red wine! That'll def be on the menu.

Yo Botanical Chick! Make a nice pot of chitlins!

LOL! I can see you cringing right now. LOL.

My new thing is making gumbo. I make enough to freeze, and have it on thanksgiving and the winter months.

Lee, How'd you know I'd cringe at just the thought of chitlins? No, no, no can do!

Gumbo could be interesting.
